Central Library reopening update
“Welcome back to our place.”
That’s the theme for the reopening of the Central Library, which reopens to the public on Monday, 9 July.
Our Central Library reopening coincides with winter school holidays, so we’re looking forward to entertaining our younger customers once we’re back “home”.
The day will include performances by Mr Roberelli, who will also be filming segments for his next music video, while Dr Seuss’ Cat In The Hat will be hosting a story-telling – and offering a chance to win a family pass to his show at Claudelands in October.
We’re also pleased to be able to recommence a number of our regular children’s activities, which were on hold due to the space constraints while we operated Pop Central in the Reception Lounge of the main Municipal Building.
You might’ve spotted our current Design a library bag competition: for our reopening event, we’ll be giving away hundreds of library tote bags featuring the winning design!
We will also have a fascinating new display put together by the Heritage Collection team, and you can contribute to our story wall on the theme “I love my library".
We want to once again extend our thanks to our fabulous customers, who have been incredibly patient and understanding while we have operated a reduced service in the central city. Your ongoing support for Hamilton City Libraries is hugely appreciated: we understand this has been a frustrating time for you.
When our Central Library opens, you won’t see a lot of change: the repairs to our building were in staff-only areas. However, as part of its recent 10-Year Plan decisions, the Council has committed $200,000 to improving the Central Library’s front-of-house and customer entry area.
Our Pop Central Library will close on Thursday 5 July – so there will be a three-day period when we won’t have a library open downtown.
In the meantime, we’d like to welcome you back to our place at the Central Library – reopening on Monday, 9 July.
