A Big Thanks From Us

Firstly, we'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the customers who've offered their support to our team since Tuesday's announcement the Central Library would be temporarily closing.

We appreciate the sudden closure may have caused our customers some inconvenience and frustration, so we appreciate your patience and understanding, too.

'Pop-up' Library

Pop Central in the Municipal Building Reception Lounge, will be up and running on Monday 5 December. The library will be open Monday-Friday 9.30am-5.30pm, Saturday 9am-4pm and Sunday 12 noon-3.30pm.

We're currently working through the logistics of setting up the 'pop-up' library. We will be offering a reduced service, with APNK computers, free Wi-Fi and self-checking of loan items unavailable.

Our staff are choosing a range of loan items for the 'pop-up' library and are aiming to stock the shelves with a good selection of popular fiction, non-fiction and children's items, along with a supply of DVDs. Unfortunately, for space reasons, we won't be able to offer all our loan material from the Central Library shelves.

Here's a list of some of the categories we'll cover with our reduced collection:

  • Fiction
  • Adult large print
  • Adult non fiction
  • Adult talking books
  • Best sellers
  • Adult graphic novels
  • Magazines
  • Young adult
  • Young adult graphic novels
  • World languages
  • Newspapers
  • Junior fiction
  • Junior non fiction
  • Junior picture books
  • Junior readers
  • Junior board books
  • Junior graphic novels
  • Junior DVDs
  • Junior talking books
  • Junior puzzles
  • Kits
  • New books
    • We won't be offering reserves on items held in the Central Library – these items won't show up in an online search on our website, either.

We are working on plans to hold some small events in the 'pop-up' library, including making our Justice of the Peace available on Fridays, as usual.

We'll still be operating our interloans service – where we can obtain an item from another library for you on request – but there are likely to be some limitations on what we can get hold of.

      Reserve items

You can still ask to reserve loan items. We'll still be able transfer reserved items between the suburban libraries for you, but as noted above, we won't be able to interloan items from the Central Library, other than what it available in the 'pop-up' library.

      Overdue charges

We've already had some enquiries from customers on overdue charges. We're being flexible on these and, if you return a book which would've been overdue from a date after 21 November, we won’t charge you – we'll treat it as if you returned the item on 21 November. Please note that once our 'pop-up' library is operating, normal charges will apply once again.

      Homebound service

Our Homebound service, usually based at the Central Library, will be operating out of the Chartwell Library from early next week.

      Returning loan items

You can return items to the 'pop-up' library during its operating hours, or through the after-hours slots at our community libraries.
