Donation of books and other materials to the Library Lending Collection

books in a pile

The Library welcomes enquiries about donations of materials that can be added to the collection. We accept donations of books and other materials provided they fall within the criteria of our policy and the underpinning collection profiles.

Donated materials may be added to the collections where required. If donated materials are not needed or already held in sufficient quantities by Hamilton City Libraries then they will be sold during book sales or disposed off. Donations need to be in “as new” condition and are accepted at the discretion of Library Staff.

Materials we are not able to accept include:

  • Magazines

  • Text books

  • Encyclopaedias

  • Non-Fiction items older than 5 years

  • In poor condition

Drop off your donation materials at any of the Library branches during regular library hours.

Individuals with especially large collections or special circumstances must contact us before bringing their collection. You can email Hamilton City Libraries, or phone 07 838 6824.
