Some key resources held by Information & Heritage



  • Indexes for New Zealand Births, Deaths and Marriages Registrations 1840-1990 - held on microfiche.

  • New Zealand Parliamentary Electoral Rolls - Lists the electors and their addresses and occupations for all of New Zealand from 1853 onwards.
  •  

  • New Zealand Cemetery Records - Provides indexed inscriptions to the headstones as well as a geographical table for locating individual cemeteries.
  •  

  • Archives and manuscripts - local community archives, includes some baptismal and marriage registers, historic photographs and some personal papers, letters, diaries etc.
  •  

  • School, church and local histories - A large range of these, particularly for the Waikato area.
  •  

  • Newspapers - We hold the Waikato Times on microfilm from 1872 onwards, some years of which are indexed. The Waikato Times can also be searched online from 1873 to 1886 on Paperspast.

  • Directories - A collection of historical business, householder and phone directories, some back to 1866.
  •  

  • Shipping Lists - A small collection of these, mainly from the middle 19th century, which list ships and their passengers.
  •  

  • Ancestry.com - genealogy database available only at library Internet terminals.

  • Maps - A good selection historic maps for Hamilton including Waikato Militia land allocation maps.
