What else happens during the year?
The Tri-Libraries Environmental Cup

The Tri-Libraries Environmental Cup is run every year during the winter school holidays. Kids are divided into three houses, Ahi Komau, Manu Taki and Tuna Ngahuru depending on where they live in Hamilton. Kids complete environmental activities, read books and write on-line reviews to earn points for their houses. The house with the highest points wins the coveted Tri-Libraries Environmental Cup for the year.

The Tri-Libraries Environmental Cup Tree Planting Day

Another way of earning points for your house is by attending the annual tree planting day at Lake Waiwhakareke. This is a day where parents, kids and librarians can give something back to the environment.
Every year there is a finale for this programme, which all kids involved get as a prize if they earn over 200 points.
All information for this programme can be found on the website during the winter months.
New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards
 |
The New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children & Young Adults reward excellence in children's literature, recognising the best books for children and teenagers published annually in New Zealand. |

The annual festival of events and activities celebrating the New Zealand Post Book Awards is one of the most exciting and colourful book-related events for young New Zealanders on the literary calendar.
Hamilton City Libraries and the Waikato Mail Centre host the regional activities for these awards. Every year we hold an event such as a fairytale dressup party, PJ Party or visit to the Mail Centre. Check the website during April to find out more.
